Portrait of Lav Kumar Yadav

UGA Griffin Campus

Dr. Lav Yadav’s research spans ornamental species, plant breeding, genomics, and bioinformatics, with a particular focus on cultivar research. He has conducted extensive studies on species such as Azalea, Franklinia, Rose, Redbud, Dogwood, and Stewartia, contributing valuable insights into plant conservation, trait improvement, and genomic resource development.

Dr. Yadav's Ph.D. research group at the University of Georgia successfully identified the max2 gene responsible for dwarfism in Piedmont Azalea, providing valuable insight into development of cultivars in the species. His postdoctoral work has expanded to include genetic analysis of flowering trees, with a focus on ornamental traits like tree architecture, leaf color, and disease resistance.

In addition to his research, Dr. Yadav has a strong passion for teaching, having served as an instructor and mentor across multiple levels, including bioinformatics and genomics. His leadership skills have been demonstrated through his involvement in student organizations and mentoring initiatives, where he has supported the academic and professional development of over ten graduate and undergraduate students. Dr. Yadav’s commitment to research, outreach, and teaching is complemented by his expertise in bioinformatics, grant writing, and international extension work, making him a well-rounded and collaborative scholar dedicated to advancing both scientific knowledge and the next generation of researchers.
